The Barbrook Lane development adds houses, bungalows and a small number of apartments on the edge of the village. Bungalows mean few stairs to negotiate, and homes with driveways allow loading close to the door, which keeps most household and garden clearances simple.
Colchester Recycling Centre accepts electricals. Every visit must be booked in advance (Blue Badge holders, pedestrians and cyclists are exempt). Vans, pick-ups and large trailers are accepted with a separate van booking, and limited amounts of DIY waste from your own home are accepted. A small fridge in the back of the car is possible; a fridge-freezer or American-style unit usually isn't.
