Skip permits in Rayleigh

Essex Highways issues skip licences here, not the district council. A skip on your drive needs nothing; on the road it needs a licence, and we apply for you. Allow 10 working days. Size limit on the road: 6-yard maximum on the highway; anything bigger needs a driveway or private land. Enquire online and we'll confirm the permit price and timing for your street before you book. Rayleigh at a glance

Homes

Rayleigh is a hilltop market town whose population roughly trebled after the Second World War. More estates were built on former greenfield land in the 1990s, and Wolsey Park, between London Road and Rawreth Lane, has added over 500 homes on the western edge. The conservation area takes in the High Street, Church Street, Bellingham Lane and London Hill, where listed cottages sit alongside late Victorian houses. Where a home has a drive, loading is direct; near the centre, the one-way system and limited kerb space make it worth planning where a vehicle will stop.

Building work

New building is concentrated at Wolsey Park, on Rayleigh's western edge between London Road and Rawreth Lane, a development of over 500 homes with open space and sports pitches. Rochford District's allocations plan also earmarked Rawreth Industrial Estate for about 220 dwellings. In the conservation area, designated in 1969 with 24 listed buildings, an Article 4 direction was proposed to control changes to windows, doors, render and boundaries. A one-way system set up in 1972 uses the High Street and Websters Way, which limits where a skip lorry can stop in the centre.

Businesses

Rayleigh's High Street is unusually wide, opening out to about 30 metres, because it held the market recorded before 1181; a Wednesday market still trades there. Shops continue into Eastwood Road and Bellingham Lane, and Rayleigh Lanes is an indoor market. Websters Way, behind the east side of the High Street, serves as a back service road and has a large public car park. Industrial premises are at Brook Road Industrial Estate, near the A127, and at Imperial Park and Rawreth Industrial Estate off Rawreth Lane. Waste includes shop cardboard, market packaging, catering waste and pallets.
