Essex Highways issues skip licences here, not the district council. A skip on your drive needs nothing; on the road it needs a licence, and we apply for you. Allow 10 working days. Pitsea at a glance

Homes

Pitsea began as plotland in the 1920s and 1930s, when buyers built on individual plots with little infrastructure, and was rebuilt from the 1960s as part of Basildon new town. Its planned neighbourhoods are Chalvedon, Eversley, Felmores, also known as Northlands Park, and Pitsea Mount. Felmores was built with pavement-only frontages, and regeneration plans there aim to add conventional streets. By the station, the Station Lane scheme completed in 2012 put 121 flats above shops. Footpath-fronted houses and upper-floor flats both involve carrying bulky items some way to a vehicle.

Building work

Pitsea town centre has been under regeneration since 2010. The Railway Hotel and the swimming pool were demolished in 2013, a new market square opened in 2014, and the former supermarket building on Northlands Pavement was reoccupied in 2016. North of the town, a large employment development has been approved on land east of Burnt Mills. In the 1960s neighbourhoods of Chalvedon and Eversley, it is worth checking whether a house fronts a road or a footpath before ordering a skip, because that decides where it can stand.

Businesses

Pitsea's shops are split between The Broadway, with mock-Tudor parades from the late 1920s and early 1930s, and the 1970s centre along Northlands Pavement. Pitsea Market, which dates from the 1920s, uses the market square opened in 2014. Old Market Retail Park and large supermarkets add bulky-goods and grocery trade. To the north, Burnt Mills Industrial Estate houses freight, printing, vehicle recycling and manufacturing firms, and Hovefields Industrial Park is another employment site. Typical waste includes market packaging, shop cardboard, pallets and workshop scrap.
