Essex Highways issues skip licences here, not the district council. A skip on your drive needs nothing; on the road it needs a licence, and we apply for you. Allow 10 working days. Tiptree at a glance

Homes

Tiptree is a large village where the B1022 Colchester to Maldon road meets the B1023, with Church Road as its centre. It expanded considerably in the 1990s and 2000s, and detached bungalows are common on roads such as Newbridge Road, Oak Road and Anchor Road. The Barbrook Lane development adds houses, bungalows and a small number of apartments on the edge of the village. Bungalows mean few stairs to negotiate, and homes with driveways allow loading close to the door, which keeps most household and garden clearances simple.

Building work

New housing in Tiptree is concentrated on its edges. A 200-home scheme at Barbrook Lane was allowed on appeal, 130 homes were permitted off Kelvedon Road in 2022, and nine homes were later proposed at Highlands on Kelvedon Road. The neighbourhood plan is intended to guide around 400 further homes. Within the village, bungalows and detached houses on roads such as Newbridge Road and Oak Road lend themselves to extensions and loft conversions. Where a driveway is available a skip can stand off the road; parking on Church Road, the village centre, is limited.

Businesses

Tiptree has no traditional high street; Church Road acts as the commercial centre, with further shops at The Centre and short-stay parking at the supermarket. The jam factory is a long-established manufacturer and visitor attraction, and Tower Business Park on Kelvedon Road houses offices, a car dealer and small retailers. Workshop and industrial units also stand on Maldon Road. Typical waste includes retail packaging, food waste from cafés, and trade waste from workshops. Parking in the centre is limited, which affects where a collection vehicle can wait.
