Essex Highways issues skip licences here, not the district council. A skip on your drive needs nothing; on the road it needs a licence, and we apply for you. Allow 10 working days. About Ingatestone

Around 5,410 people. Ingatestone comes under Brentwood Borough Council. Garden clearances on bigger CM4 plots, listed-property clearances handled with care, single-item bulky collections.

Ingatestone at a glance

Homes

Ingatestone has a tightly built High Street of mainly Georgian-fronted properties set at the back of the pavement, some with flats above shops and rear yards reached through carriage arches. Norton Road has early twentieth-century red-brick cottages, terraced and semi-detached, and post-war expansion added ribbon development and infill housing along roads off the centre. Two conservation areas cover the High Street and Station Lane, with a third at nearby Fryerning. Narrow pavements, the blind junction with Fryerning Lane and yellow lines on the High Street limit where a vehicle can stop to load.

House clearance in Ingatestone

Building work

A scheme of 91 homes has been brought forward on the former garden centre site on Roman Road, where outline consent for up to 110 was granted on appeal. Otherwise work is mostly extension and refurbishment of post-war houses and of older cottages within the High Street and Station Lane conservation areas, where demolition and some external alterations are controlled. Market Place is a private road beyond Bakers Lane, Star Lane is narrow and walled, and Station Lane has waiting restrictions near the level crossing, so skip positions and lorry access need checking.

Businesses

Trade in Ingatestone centres on the High Street, which has many small independent shops alongside offices, pubs and a few modern shop blocks such as Spread Eagle Place and The Limes. Coaching inns including The Bell and The Star survive, and public car parks lie behind The Chequers and beside the Community Centre. Ingatestone Hall, the Tudor house south-east of the village, opens to visitors. Typical waste is cardboard, glass, food waste and shop-refit debris. Collections on the High Street have to work around steady through traffic and parking controls.
