Skip permits in Basildon

Essex Highways issues skip licences here, not the district council. A skip on your drive needs nothing; on the road it needs a licence, and we apply for you. Allow 10 working days. Basildon at a glance

Homes

Basildon was designated a new town in 1949, and its first tenants moved into Redgrave Road, Vange, in 1951. Vange and Fryerns were followed by neighbourhoods including Barstable, Kingswood, Ghyllgrove and Lee Chapel. The first estates had one garage for every six homes. From the late 1950s layouts switched to Radburn schemes: short terraces reached by footpaths, with cars kept in rear service areas and garage blocks. On those estates furniture, appliances and garden waste have to be carried along a path to a road or parking court before loading.

Building work

Regeneration is concentrated in the town centre: East Square has gained a cinema, opened in 2024, and new restaurants, Market Square is being remodelled, and the Eastgate Quarter proposals would add about 2,800 homes around the shopping centre. Estate renewal continues alongside. Craylands, between Fryerns and Pitsea, is being redeveloped as Beechwood Village, and several 1970s estates are being rebuilt at lower densities. Where houses front footpaths under the Radburn pattern, a skip has to stand on a parking court or an adjoining road, not outside the door.

Businesses

Basildon town centre is pedestrianised around Town Square and East Walk, with the covered Eastgate Shopping Centre holding over 100 retailers and Westgate Shopping Park next to it. Festival Leisure Park groups restaurants, a cinema, bowling and hotels, and Pipps Hill and Mayflower retail parks sit beside the A127. Industry lines the same corridor in the Cranes Farm Road, Pipps Hill and Burnt Mills areas. Waste ranges from retail packaging and restaurant food waste to pallets and manufacturing offcuts, and the pedestrian streets limit vehicle access to central shopfronts.

“Very polite and efficient. Excellent quick turnaround, job well done 👍”

“We used the company to clear my late father’s garden which was heavily overgrown with sheds full of rubbish collected over 30 years in the house (hoarding). The garden was inaccessible and difficult to get into. During a heatwave Levi and his team cleared the garden back to basic as we requested which required significant work. From first contact we received professional responses and an initial timescale of availability. We then had a site visit and a further discussion on how long it would take and the cost being clear about what was involved in the costs but also confirming how the waste would be disposed of. They ensured the parking area and communal paths were cleaned following the work. We would highly recommend the company.”
