WEEE & Appliances in Benfleet: what to know
We collect household, garden and commercial waste across South Benfleet, Thundersley and Hadleigh in SS7.
South Benfleet grew after its station opened in 1855 and spread rapidly after the Second World War, merging with Thundersley to the north. Housing across both is a mix of detached, semi-detached and terraced houses, chalets and bungalows, with some low-rise flats. The old centre around the High Street and St Mary's Church is a conservation area with an Article 4 direction. Some roads are unmade, including parts of The Chase in Thundersley and lanes between Felstead Road and Catherine Road, which matters when a heavier vehicle is collecting bulky or garden waste.
Canvey Recycling Centre accepts electricals. Every visit has to be booked in advance, cars included. It's cars only, so no vans, pick-ups or large trailers. A small fridge in the back of the car is possible; a fridge-freezer or American-style unit usually isn't.
Bungalows with wide drives are the easy case: the truck backs right up and loading is quick.
If the property is on a slope or reached by a narrow lane, send a photo of the approach. Let us know about steps, gates and any distance between the waste and the parking space.
- Charge
- Minimum charge of £49.18 for up to 3 items; additional items £7.60 each; maximum of 10 items. Upholstered items need a separate booking at the same rates.
- Leave items
- Displayed openly at the front of the property boundary before 7am; the team will not enter the property.
- Not taken
- Upholstered seating (sofas, armchairs, padded chairs) cannot be collected with general bulky items and is charged as a separate collection; no glass or mirrors; no fitted units.
