Mattress & Sofa in Hockley: what to know
We cover Hockley, Hawkwell and Hullbridge in SS5, including homes and building work off the B1013.
Hockley expanded after the railway arrived in 1889, when farmland was sold in plots and holiday shacks gradually gave way to permanent houses. Today it is a low-rise suburb with many bungalows and chalets on plots of varying size, joined to neighbouring Hawkwell. A row of bungalows stands north of the railway line, and there is sheltered housing close to the centre. Homes on the former Bullwood Hall prison site adjoin Hockley Woods. Because plots differ so much, side access for garden waste and space for a vehicle vary from street to street.
Villages and farm tracks around Hockley can be narrow, so we check the access on a map before we set off and bring the right size of vehicle. Dismantling a sofa or bed that won't come out in one piece is £30 an item.
For long drives or waste at the back of a plot, tell us the distance and whether the surface is firm enough for a vehicle. Photos of gates and turning space help us assess access before quoting.
- Charge
- £23.22 for the first item, additional items are charged £11.09 each.
- Leave items
- On the boundary of the property (or outside a communal bin store) by 7am, accessible and visible; contractors are not permitted to enter properties.
- Not taken
- No boilers, concrete, soil or turf, fencing, garage doors, musical instruments, windows, glass, or bagged rubbish; upholstered (POPs) items are collected separately; soiled mattresses must be bagged.
