Essex Highways issues skip licences here, not the district council. A skip on your drive needs nothing; on the road it needs a licence, and we apply for you. Allow 10 working days. Size limit on the road: 6-yard maximum on the highway; anything bigger needs a driveway or private land. Enquire online and we'll confirm the permit price and timing for your street before you book. About Hockley

Around 9,639 people. Hockley comes under Rochford District Council. Garden clearances in SS5, shed and outbuilding removals, end-of-tenancy clearances in Hockley village.

Hockley at a glance

Homes

Hockley expanded after the railway arrived in 1889, when farmland was sold in plots and holiday shacks gradually gave way to permanent houses. Today it is a low-rise suburb with many bungalows and chalets on plots of varying size, joined to neighbouring Hawkwell. A row of bungalows stands north of the railway line, and there is sheltered housing close to the centre. Homes on the former Bullwood Hall prison site adjoin Hockley Woods. Because plots differ so much, side access for garden waste and space for a vehicle vary from street to street.

Building work

Rochford District's allocations plan identified land between Folly Lane and Church Road for at least 50 dwellings, and plans for 60 homes on the former Bullwood Hall prison site were submitted in 2015. In the centre, the Hockley Area Action Plan marked the Eldon Way estate for mixed-use redevelopment. Spa Road is the principal route through the village, and its mini-roundabout with Main Road, Southend Road and Woodlands Road is prone to queues. Main Road has very little parking or unloading space, so skip and lorry positions there need arranging in advance.

Businesses

Hockley's shops are mainly in parades along Spa Road, where formal on-street parking is on the south side; the public car park is south of Southend Road, behind the library. Independent traders make up much of the centre. Off Spa Road, the Eldon Way trading estate and Foundry Business Park combine light industrial units with leisure businesses. Shops on Main Road have very limited parking and unloading space. Waste is chiefly cardboard and food waste from shops and cafes, with pallets and packaging from the trade units.

★★★★★

“We used the company to clear my late father’s garden which was heavily overgrown with sheds full of rubbish collected over 30 years in the house (hoarding). The garden was inaccessible and difficult to get into. During a heatwave Levi and his team cleared the garden back to basic as we requested which required significant work. From first contact we received professional responses and an initial timescale of availability. We then had a site visit and a further discussion on how long it would take and the cost being clear about what was involved in the costs but also confirming how the waste would be disposed of. They ensured the parking area and communal paths were cleaned following the work. We would highly recommend the company.”
