Wait & Load in Tilbury: what to know
Tilbury grew up as a dock town beside the Port of Tilbury, and most of its housing is terraces and flats laid out between Calcutta Road, St Chad's Road and the railway. The port and the warehousing off the A1089 make it one of the main freight and logistics areas in Thurrock.
The Tilbury Town Deal, awarded in July 2021, is funding public-realm improvements at Civic Square, a gateway scheme around Tilbury Town station and heritage links along Ferry Road towards the riverside and Tilbury Fort. The 1960s Broadway Estate has been through a regeneration programme that included self-build homes, and the inter-war council houses are the kind of stock that attracts refurbishment, rear extensions and loft work. Dock Road is a busy through-road and the neighbouring streets are in controlled parking zones, so skip positions and lorry stops are worth agreeing before work starts.
On Tilbury's terraced streets there's rarely a drive to stand a skip on, which is the usual reason for booking wait and load: the truck stops in the road, you load it, and it goes. There is no skip left behind, so no skip permit to arrange. Tell us about any parking or loading restrictions so we can check where the truck will stop.

- Rules
- No booking is needed, but the site is for Thurrock residents only and proof of address is required; trade waste is refused. Small vans and single-axle trailers under 1.8m need a council permit (6 visits a year, or 2 for a hired vehicle), trailers are only admitted on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and larger vehicles such as Ford Transits, Luton vans, tippers, flatbeds and minibuses are not allowed in. Alternative: Linford is the only household waste site in Thurrock. Essex County Council centres such as Pitsea are restricted to residents of the Essex County Council area, so Thurrock households cannot use them.

Wait & Load in Tilbury: your questions
What's the difference between wait and load and a skip in Tilbury?
A skip stays while waste builds up and, on the public road in Tilbury, needs a permit from Thurrock Council. Wait and load is for waste ready to collect: you load the truck with our driver's help during the waiting time you book. No skip is left behind, but the truck needs a legal place to stop.
Who loads the truck on a wait and load in Tilbury?
You and your helpers, with our driver lending a hand. The truck waits up to 15 minutes for a quarter load and 60 for a full truck, so have the waste ready before it arrives. If you'd rather we did the lifting, book a man and van collection instead, priced per item, or ask for a free rubbish clearance estimate.
